For the first time in the 125 year history of the Knights of Columbus the Supreme Convention will be televised on EWTN Here is the announcement from the Supreme website. Three major Catholic media outlets have developed plans to broadcast from the Knights of Columbus 125th Supreme Convention, Aug. 7-9, 2007, in Nashville, Tenn. Knights throughout the Order are encouraged to tune-in to convention coverage via television, radio or the Internet. The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), Salt & Light Television, and Sirius Satellite Radio’s The Catholic Channel will each provide event coverage. EWTN will broadcast live from the convention Tuesday, Aug. 7. EWTN News Director Raymond Arroyo will anchor the telecast, which will include live, uninterrupted coverage throughout the day, including the Opening Mass (which will be celebrated by the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone), the Supreme Knight’s annual report, and the States Dinner program. EWTN will also include live interviews and pre-recorded segments about the K of C throughout the day. EWTN reaches 140 million homes in 144 countries via cable and satellite in North, Central and South America, Europe, Africa and the Pacific Rim, including the Philippines and Australia. Translation will be provided by EWTN to its Spanish speaking audiences. The global Catholic television network, based in Birmingham, Ala., also streams its broadcasts on the Internet, enabling those without network access via TV to view all its programming. EWTN’s worldwide radio network, which includes a Sirius Satellite Radio channel 160 and more than 100 AM & FM affiliates throughout the United States, will broadcast convention activities live as well. Canada’s Salt & Light Television plans to broadcast live segments of Tuesday’s activities, including the Mass, Supreme Knight’s report and States Dinner program. It will also be present throughout the convention to conduct interviews with delegates and Church leaders for its nightly program ZOOM and its weekly current affairs magazine, FOCUS. Salt & Light is preparing a documentary on the Knights of Columbus during the convention. Canada’s first national catholic television network, born in 2003, after World Youth Day 2002 in Toronto, now reaches nearly 500,000 homes in English- and French-speaking Canada. Sirius Satellite Radio’s The Catholic Channel (channel 159) will broadcast its Busted Halo Show, hosted by Paulist Father Dave Dwyer, from the convention Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 7-9 p.m. (EDT). The Catholic Channel will provide periodic updates and interviews throughout the convention and Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, will record his weekly program, A Conversation with the Cardinal, from the event in Nashville. New York-based Sirius has a subscriber base of 6.5 million households in North America. It also offers a (limited) free Internet subscription, through which listeners may access all its programming. Knights who are not already subscribers can sample the service, and listen to coverage of the KC convention, by signing up for the network’s free 3 day trial during convention week.
